Improving Mental
Health Care for
Mothers & Children

Mission

Formed to address the rising mental health epidemic among Louisiana’s mothers, Postpartum Health Louisiana is committed to advancing a singular goal: expanding access to information, screenings, and treatment options for PPD and other severe postpartum psychiatric illnesses.

PPD is the most common complication of pregnancy and childbirth. Over 12% of Louisiana women with a recent birth reported experiencing depressive symptoms, and more than 1 in 10 of these mothers did not receive a postpartum checkup. Improving Louisiana’s standard of care for maternal mental health starts with prioritizing awareness around postpartum depression treatment and advancing simple legislative changes that break barriers to cutting-edge psychiatric care for mothers.
